the importance of taking care by brookeshaden on Flickr.Tramite Flickr:
What better way to start a new week than to fawn over some kitties! This is Nyah who I often choose to photograph. Her little nub arm is featured prominently here, so if you wonder why her paw looks like a stub the reason is because, well, it is! Aww :) A bit of a less serious post for the start to a week that I am going to try to inject with lots of fun, humor, and productivity.
I am having my first underwater workshop in Los Angeles on June 4th & 5th, a two-day class that goes through how to use underwater equipment, how to shoot underwater, numerous photo sessions, and a full live editing portion as well. Here are the details. You can email “workshops@brookeshaden.com” to sign up :)facebook | formspring | website | blog | twitter

the perspective of make believe people by brookeshaden on Flickr.Tramite Flickr:
When I was in San Francisco over the weekend I saw this bed while hiking in the beautiful redwood forest. It was out in the garbage pile at someone’s home so I decided to squeeze it in the car for the ride home. There was also a bed frame that didn’t match the bed you see here, and while we tried for 30 minutes to get it in the car it just wouldn’t fit. So I created a makeshift bed from the other parts, and here we are. A bed that was too heavy for little me to carry but at least I didn’t have to drag it too far.
When I think of characters I like to think that they truly do live in their own worlds. Who is to say this character doesn’t live her life like this, with the floor being a wall and the air being her floor? This is why I love self-portraiture. I can put myself in the world I wish we lived in.

falling apart by brookeshaden on Flickr.Tramite Flickr:
I was finally able to take the plunge underwater thanks to my new gear (Equinox, for those asking!). It is amazing how a better camera and underwater system can drastically effect the clarity of the image…okay, okay, I know that is nothing new but I can still marvel over the fact that I got something in focus ;-) Here’s a pic of me shooting in the water yesterday: twitpic.com/53ved8
I created this in preparation for my underwater workshop next weekend. I love underwater photography. There is something so carefree about it, yet at the same time suffocating. There are such wild juxtapositions in it: grace vs. struggle, weightlessness vs. drowning.
